According to Lorelle, the latest and greatest WordPress has been released. And it has, I’ve already upgraded this site. It features a new and improved admin interface, photo gallery handling, as well as an assortment of miscellaneous bug fixes. A more complete summary of new features is available at the official WordPress 2.5 announcement. If you aren’t running version 2.33, I recommend you upgrade now. If you are using 2.33, give it a few days, then do the upgrade. Remember, I’m available to do the upgrade for you. Just send me an email order@updateyourblog.com.

I’ve been beta testing the new version for the past couple weeks. While I’m not totally thrilled with all of the design decisions that have been made, I think I do like the new admin interface better than the older design.

There are thousands of blogs out there in the world, with many more coming online every day. You don’t need to know HTML, or web programming, or any of the technical stuff that happens behind the scenes. All you have to do is be able to write. That’s a great thing, never before in the world have people been able to so easily publish their thoughts.

The disadvantage is because “it just works” it is very simple to forget that the system you are using sometimes has problems with it. These problems get fixed by the programmers who wrote the system, and they make those fixes available. So then all you have to do is install the upgraded software. And that is a little scary to a writer.

It’s very much like being able to drive a car. You don’t have to know how the hundreds of different systems in a car work. When it’s time for routine maintenance (every three months change the oil), or if something bad happens (funny noise coming from the wheels when you brake), you take the car to an expert, a mechanic.

Well, now you can have someone keep your Wordpress installation up-to-date for you as well. Simply pay a small fee for every upgrade that is released by Wordpress, and I will do the following for your blog:

Upgrade your Wordpress to the most recent released version.

Backup your database files.

Give your blog a checkup to make sure things are working correctly and securely.

Make sure you are running the newest version of any plugins

Give suggestions for things that could be improved.

Optionally, make a backup of the site files (custom themes, uploaded files, etc…)
